As another reviewer noted, the base is symetrical, but it does have a pointing arrow -- so you shouldn't really have a problem with pointing it the correct direction. Excellent basic compass that has every necessary feature. It would be pretty cheap to buy a spare. If there was one thing I would change, though, it would be to have the 'direction of travel' arrow side of the base longer.Terrific price, too. It does not have a sighting mirror, so if you feel that is a requirement, look elsewhere. Very steady needle, declination adjusment, and a greenish base, which you may appreciate if you drop it in the woods.
Tally-Ho. What can you say, a good basic compass. Seems to be made pretty well and it points north.
If you need something more advanced this may not be the stable platform for you. They eat up this compass. Great Value. But for beginning Boy Scouts. A rock solid beginner compass. I got these for my 11 Year old Scouts. It's perfect for what we're doing, beginning orienteering.
Happy with purchase. Basic compass but has all the markings needed. Works as promised.
It's a good beginner compass, but remember that you get what you pay for. It's small size and price (under $10). makes for a simple, efficient compass when backpacking or hiking. This `easy-to-read' compass is perfect for map and compass orienteering. For a little more money you can get a nice "Lensatic" military compass with a sighting-arm. The scale is in both inches and millimeters and the clear plastic makes for easy use on any map. It has a tool free adjustable declination for easy navigating and gives you graduations in degrees. Unfortunately, there is no site-mirror, which makes for a more accurate reading.
